In Bhubaneswar, Odisha, the Odisha Vigilance Directorate recovered an unprecedented cash hoard of over ₹4 crore concealed in trolley bags and cupboards at the residence of Debabrata Mohanty, Deputy Director of Mines, Cuttack Circle, after vigilance officials arrested him in a bribe trap over a ₹30,000 payment and launched simultaneous raids on his flat and linked properties, marking the highest-ever cash seizure in the agency’s history and triggering a disproportionate assets investigation under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Officials described the discovery as extraordinary, with bundles of notes found stacked and scattered throughout the flat, prompting enquiries into other linked assets including gold and properties, and emphasising intensified enforcement against corruption in the state.
