Thousands of primary school teachers and staff gathered in Bhubaneswar demanding a long-pending pay revision: grade pay hiking to ₹4,200 and six notional increments covering their service years from 2001–2024. They say the state government has ignored repeated requests, leaving them with no option but to protest.

“We are standing together — teachers and female-teachers — seeking respect, job security and fair pay,” said a protesting teacher. Their demands also include permanent regularisation of service and pay parity with national standards.

This agitation underscores years of dissatisfaction among primary educators in Odisha. With tens of thousands under agitation, the move could affect government schools across the state, pushing education and student-welfare into uncertainty if demands remain unmet.
