A major controversy has erupted over alleged obscene dance performances by item girl Nisha Maharana, triggering strong action in Chhattisgarh while Odisha remains without clear enforcement. The incident took place in Gariaband, where protests broke out over explicit stage performances.

Following the row, Chhattisgarh Police arrested 14 event organisers, suspended three police officials, and transferred the Sub-Collector. The swift action has raised questions as to why similar performances during Yatra shows in Odisha continue without strict measures.

Earlier, Odisha’s Culture Minister had stated that guidelines would be issued soon to curb obscene dance performances in Yatra shows. However, so far, no Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) or official guidelines have been released.
