Self-styled performers are accused of crossing limits in the name of entertainment, hurting the sentiments of audiences who respect traditional art forms.

The issue escalated after an Odia Jatra team and item dancer Nisha Maharana performed in Chhattisgarh, drawing criticism and outrage. Following the uproar over the dance performance, Chhattisgarh Police arrested 14 organisers linked to the event.

In a major administrative fallout, three police officers were suspended and the Sub-Collector was transferred, intensifying the debate on when strict action will be taken against obscene performances on Jatra stages.
