In a major transport development, National Waterway-5 (NW-5) is set to begin in Odisha, India, forming a key part of the inland waterways network. The waterway project will span approximately 588 km, with about 532 km in Odisha and 91 km in West Bengal, connecting Talcher coal belt to Dhamra and Paradip ports via the Brahmani, Matai, East Coast Canal and Mahanadi delta river systems.
