Deadly manja kite thread has become a serious threat ahead of Makar Sankranti, with incidents of severe neck injuries being reported. Considering the potential risk to life, police across the state have intensified enforcement drives before the festival.

Police conducted special drives in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri, raiding multiple shops to check the sale of banned manja thread. Authorities warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found selling illegal manja thread or kites made using such material.

The crackdown comes amid growing concerns over accidents caused by sharp kite strings, prompting police to step up surveillance and preventive action during the festive season.
