In Deogarh district, Odisha, forest officials successfully rescued three elephants that had fallen into an open well in Tinkbir (Baranali) village under the Reamal Range this afternoon. The incident took place around 4:15 PM when the elephants were moving with their herd of eighteen and three of them accidentally slipped into the uncovered pit.

Responding quickly to information from villagers, the Reamal Range Officer and forest team arrived at the site. Using a JCB machine, they created a gentle ramp along the well’s edge. By about 5:10 PM, all three elephants were safely guided out and rejoined their herd without any reported injuries, marking a successful rescue operation by the forest department.

This timely intervention highlights the vigilance of forest staff and the importance of prompt action in wildlife-human interface zones. Local villagers played a key role by immediately alerting authorities, ensuring that the elephants received help before their plight worsened.
