Debate Erupts Over New Allowances for MLAs: Electricity, Phone & Book Expenses Added

ବିଧାୟକଙ୍କ ଦରମା ଥରକେ ୩ ଗୁଣା ବଢ଼ିଗଲା। ତେବେ ବଢିଥିବା ଦରମାକୁ ନେଇ ଯେତେ ଆଲୋଚନା ହେଉଛି, ତା ଠାରୁ ଅଧିକ ଚର୍ଚ୍ଚା ଭତ୍ତାକୁ ନେଇ। ବର୍ଦ୍ଧିତ ଦରମା ସହ ବିଧାୟକଙ୍କୁ ମିଳିବ ୨୦ ହଜାରର ବିଜୁଳି, ୧୫ ହଜାର ଟେଲିଫୋନ ଆଉ ବହି ଖର୍ଚ୍ଚ ବାବଦକୁ ୧୦ ହଜାର ଟଙ୍କାର ଭତ୍ତା। ୮ ବର୍ଷ ହେଲା ବଢି ନଥିଲା, ହେଲେ ଏକା ବେଳକେ ଏତେ ବଢିଲା ଯେ ଯାହାକୁ ସହଜରେ ହଜମ କରି ପାରୁନାହାନ୍ତି ରାଜ୍ୟ ବାସୀ। ବିଜୁଳି, ଟେଲିଫୋନ ଆଉ ବହି କିଣା ବାବଦ ଭତ୍ତା କେତେ ଯୁକ୍ତିଯୁକ୍ତ ତାକୁ ନେଇ ଉଠିଲାଣି ପ୍ରଶ୍ନ।

The salary of MLAs has been raised threefold in a single revision after eight years without any hike. However, the increased salary is not the only talking point; the major debate centres around the new allowances added along with it. As per the revised structure, MLAs will now receive an allowance of ₹20,000 for electricity, ₹15,000 for telephone expenses, and ₹10,000 for buying books.
