Former BJD youth leader Dilip Kanhar and several block-level chiefs from Kandhamal district have formally joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a rally in Brahmanigam under BJP’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” event. The switch was announced in presence of Kandhamal MP Sukanta Panigrahi, who claimed that many more BJD block chiefs, committee members and sarpanchs will soon join BJP. Kanhar said he decided to leave Biju Janata Dal (BJD) after years of work, citing disrespect and lack of access to senior leadership. He expressed satisfaction at joining BJP and optimism about future support from former BJD colleagues.

According to organizers, including Kanhar and other defectors in BJP will strengthen the party’s base in Kandhamal and other areas. The development signals a potential shift in regional political loyalties ahead of future electoral contests.

This comes amid growing political churn in Odisha, with several leaders reconsidering their party affiliation amid ongoing debates over leadership and direction.
