A controversy has erupted at the Bhajan Mandap of Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar over a bodybuilding competition. The East India Bodybuilding Championship organised at the venue was opposed by the Puruna Bhubaneswar Nagarika Mancha.

Calling the women’s fitness and bodybuilding competition an act of “cultural degradation” at a spiritual place, members of the outfit sprinkled cow dung water inside the mandap in protest. They objected to the event being held at a religious site, stating it hurt religious sentiments.

On the other hand, women bodybuilders have strongly condemned the protest and expressed displeasure over the incident, calling it unjustified and insulting to sports and athletes.
