A group called Nikhil Utkal Pachika Sangha (Mid-Day Meal cooks’ union) has launched a protest on the streets outside the state Assembly, refusing to cook in schools — demanding a daily wage of ₹462, identity cards, and regularisation of their jobs. The protesters have threatened to continue their agitation day and night unless the government addresses their demands.
