Police have arrested a youth in connection with a girl student’s self-immolation attempt reported from the Lanjiberna area of Rajgangpur in Sundargarh district. Senior police officials, including the Sundargarh Superintendent of Police, visited the spot and carried out an investigation.

Briefing the media, the SP said the injured student is currently undergoing treatment at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) General Hospital. Her condition remains critical.

According to police, the student has sustained nearly 90 per cent burn injuries, and her condition is described as extremely serious as the investigation into the incident continues.
