This is the painful story of a poor mother from Ballaranga village in Odisha’s Subarnapur district. When her son Krishna Nayak, a Class 8 student of Ichhapur High School, broke his hand during a sports competition, she had no money for his treatment. Desperate to save him, she pawned her ration card to borrow ₹4,500 and admitted him to the Sonepur District Hospital.
