Primary school teachers in Odisha have warned they will sit in protest until the government heeds their demand for higher grade pay. While teachers in all other states across India have had their grade pay increased, Odisha’s educators remain stuck — they say their pay hike pleas have been ignored for years. The irate teachers declared with the slogan ‘#Dabi_Nasuniba_Yaen_Eiṭhi_PaḍiRahibu’ (“We will stay put here until our demands are heard”) that they will stay put even in the cold until justice is done.
A protesting teacher said, “Every state’s teachers got grade-pay hike — but not us. If our demand is not heard, we will sit here in cold until they listen.” This underscores the frustration building among hundreds of teachers statewide.
The demand arises from long-standing grievances over poor pay, lack of parity with other states, and delayed implementation of promised pay reforms. The agitation reflects a broader cry for dignity, livelihood and fairness for teachers in Odisha.
