As mercury plunges in Odisha’s Kandhamal district, locals are enduring an intense cold wave — with daytime chill and freezing nights — making everyday life a struggle. Residents complain that even warm clothes fail to protect them; many seek shelter near fires or cramped indoors to stay warm.

People told reporters how difficult it has become: “Even after wearing warm clothes, the cold doesn’t spare us,” said one villager, describing how they huddle near small fires for warmth. The cold has disrupted daily routines, affecting sleep, work, and mobility during early mornings and late nights.

Kandhamal, known for its hilly terrain and tribal communities, has witnessed unusual drops in night temperature recently (many places recorded below 10 °C), intensifying hardship for the inhabitants during this wave of cold.
